In 1982 John Ehrlich moved his lathe and mill out of his garage and started business as J & L Machine. After several years of steady growth, J & L became Altech Precision and continued to grow as a job shop.

In the late 1990's, John met Ralph Galliford at a swap meet. Ralph was looking for a Quad4 to build a motor to go land speed racing at Bonneville Salt Flats. A deal was soon reached; John got a Gantry Crane and Ralph got a Quad 4. Part of the deal was that John had to fabricate a steel scatter shield for the race car. After the scatter shield was built, John and Ralph figured out that with a little bondo to give it draft, they could make a casting pattern and cast them themselves a Bellhousing. The first one went into Ralph's 29 "A" Roadster pickup; the second went into John's '30 "A" Coupe.

Chris Shelton, with Street Rodder Magazine, picked up on what was going on. He did back to back articles in June and July of 2002 on the Quad4. That's when things really took off! As demand grew, Quad 4 Rods became the focus of the business with Altech Precision itsĀ  subsidiary.

The Land Speed Racing became a reality in August 2004. John and Ralph set a new G/STR street roadster record of 132.508 in a '27 "T" roadster.

Many new parts have been added to the product line, along with different engines such as the Ford Zetec and Duratec.

There are new and exciting products in development and will be in production as they get tested.
